    EIA Public Consultations

    Within the scope of the ESIA the AGL held public meetings on Adjaristsqali hydro project in 4 affected municipalities:

    June 8 – 11:00am in Khulo municipality, administration building

    June 8- 16:00 pm Shuakhevi municipality, administration building

    June 9 – 11:00 am Keda Municipality, administration building

    June 9 – 14:30 pm Adjaristsqali village, Khelvachauri municipality, community administration building

    Public meeting program:

    –          Information about the company and the project

    –          ESIA findings, impacts and mitigation measures

    –          Land acquisition procedures

    –          Clean Development Mechanism

    –          Grievance Mechanism

    Local authorities, administration staff, head of communities, representatives of local villages attended the meetings. AGL presented the company and gave a short description about the project. Gamma Consulting Ltd, local consultancy firm presented the ESIA findings, impacts and mitigation measures of the project.

    The company also discussed details of land acquisition procedures, methods and approaches.  Both state and private owns will be affected by the project. AGL intends to give compensation to landowners as well as land user regardless their legal status.

    A presentation was given about Clean Development Mechanism as well. Since the project is very expensive, the company plans to apply for the CDM credits without which the project is not viable financially.

    Since AGL is committed to openness and transparency of information, it seeks to improve communication with local residents. Therefore, the company set up Comments and Recommendation Boxes in administration buildings of each municipality. Special logging system is developed by AGL to log and register all comments/questions/suggestions received from locals.
