Health and Safety
HEALTH AND LABOR SAFETY HAS BEEN ONE OF ADJARISTSQALI GEORGIA’S MAIN PRIORITIES FROM THE BEGINNING OF CONSTRUCTION TO THE OPERATIONAL PHASE. AGL HAS DEVELOPED LABOR, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES. THE COMPANY IS GUIDED BY BOTH GEORGIAN LEGISLATION AND INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS.
TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION
Adjaristsqali Georgia LLC constantly tries to raise employees’ awareness of labor safety and regularly conducts training and seminars that include both practical and theoretical components. The company’s employees regularly attend evacuation-simulation trainings that are implemented in compliance with local regulations and international standards.
To constantly develop our employees’ skills, our technical team attends an annual lecture course on relevant Georgian legislation and regulations. Upon completing this course, members of the Shuakhevi HPP’s technical team receive certificates that authorize them to participate in the process of safely generating electricity.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
AGL also follows emergency management plans. These plans anticipate potential emergencies that might take place at the Shuakhevi HPP and outline management procedures as well as preventative and mitigation measures. The plans appoint an emergency management team, outline the responsibilities of each team member, and explain step by step procedures to act in coordination with emergency management services and the central dispatch station in order to avoid or mitigate any kind of incident.
FIRE SAFETY
In terms of fire safety, the power station is fully equipped with modern fire alarm systems. Every unit, including generators, power transformers, and the Central Control Room are equipped with individual fire extinguisher systems.
The entire station is equipped with fire alarms, smoke detectors, mobile fire extinguishers, and external and internal fire hydrants. To keep our fire systems and equipment in proper working order, they are regularly inspected and maintained by a team of highly qualified professionals. In addition, Shuakhevi HPP staff members regularly attend theoretical and practical training seminars led by experts in the field. All of the Shuakhevi HPP’s fire safety systems and procedures have passed evaluation and inspection by the Emergency Management Department of Georgia.
Procedures
AGL has specific procedures in place for performing high-risk tasks. These documents explain the procedures for such things as working from heights or in enclosed spaces or tasks involving electrical or fire risks. In addition to our own safety procedures, the company follows all applicable Georgian labour and safety laws and regulations as well as international best practices. Before performing any high-risk work, AGL develops a risk assessment document that provides detailed information on threat identification, risks, and procedures to minimise those risks.
Community Safety
One of Adjaristsqali Georgia’s priorities is raising awareness of safety among residents of highland Adjara. The company conducts regular information meetings with residents of local villages, school students and parents, village representatives, and other stakeholders as per Stakeholders Engagement Plans
The Shuakhevi HPP operates on the Adjaristskali, Skhaltistskali, and Chikhukistskali Rivers. Dams and water-intake headrace structures are constructed on each of these rivers. Reservoir flood zones are fully equipped with signage, and every path accessing potential flood zones is fenced off. Downstream and in river beds, the company has installed warning signs at bridges and access paths to the river to ensure the safety of the community living in the area.
Our company’s goal is to make the production process completely safe for both employees and nearby residents.
