    Giorgi Tavdgiridze, Engineer

Giorgi Tavdgiridze is an electrical engineer who has been working in the energy sector for more than 10 years. He continues a family tradition: both of his parents are engineers as well.

He says he has been interested in the energy field since he was a child and saw a local hydropower plant generating electricity every day. Not surprisingly, he decided to enroll in the Faculty of Power Engineering when he started university. Giorgi is now an operation engineer performing an important role at the Shuakhevi Hydropower Plant (HPP) project.

“I’ve been interested in the energy field since I was a child. I live in Makhuntseti in the Keda district. I have been looking at the hydropower plant almost every day since I was a child. I was always interested in how it worked and what went on inside, and my ultimate choice of profession was driven by this interest.”

Giorgi’s first job was at Energo-Pro Georgia. He later he worked for a variety of different energy projects until 2015 when he joined the Adjaristsqali Georgia (AGL) team. He has been with the team through every stage of the project’s development, from construction to operation.

“Every engineer on our team plays an important role for our company and our country. When you are in the control room, you are ensuring that the electricity we generate gets provided to the Georgian electrical grid. You are fully aware that the energy that the Shuakhevi HPP generates is needed by thousands of people to do their jobs and live their lives. Knowing the importance of your role in this process doubles the sense of responsibility you feel when doing your job.”

Giorgi believes that continuing education is the most important thing you need to succeed – a value that the entire AGL team shares. He appreciates the numerous opportunities to develop the knowledge and expertise that the company provides its employees through on-site training and international certificate and diploma programs.

Giorgi has five years of experience working for the Shuakhevi HPP project. He believes that one of the project’s many successes is the way that so many young engineers were given the opportunity to obtain theoretical and practical knowledge and experience working and interning at the project.

“I believe that I am a part of a successful team that can handle any challenge.  Apart from our technical knowledge, our team’s success is defined by the values we share.”
