Internships at Shuakhevi HPP - An Opportunity for Students from Georgian and International Universities

Energy Company Adjaristsqali Georgia continues its student internship programme. Established during the construction of Shuakhevi HPP, the programme provides practical experience, develops professional skills and supports women’s participation in the energy sector.

As a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, AGL supports the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The internship programme forms part of this commitment, contributing to quality education, gender equality and decent work.
“Our goal is to help create an environment where women and men have equal opportunities in the energy sector, including access to practical experience and professional development. Internships and engagement with young professionals are an important part of this approach,” said Satish Bhat, Chief Executive Officer of AGL.

As part of the programme, Mano Kvaratskhelia, an undergraduate engineering student at Princeton University, completed a two-week internship at the company. All departments participated in the internship, introducing Mano to energy project management, departmental roles and responsibilities, and coordination across teams. The programme included site visits, exposure to technical and operational activities, and work with specialists across different disciplines. Particular attention was given to safety procedures and the practical aspects of engineering.
“Students should have direct contact with practising professionals, ask technical questions and gain a clear understanding of what they need to build a successful career in this sector,” said Gogita Bolkvadze, Civil Engineer at Shuakhevi HPP and one of Mano’s mentors.

Building on her internship experience, Mano plans to study the hydrological characteristics of Georgia’s rivers and the availability of relevant data during her studies at Princeton.
“I believe that working on this subject at university will help me explore it in greater depth and focus my research on hydrological characteristics and the lack of data,” said Mano Kvaratskhelia.

She plans to continue her research at master’s and doctoral levels and apply her knowledge to the development of Georgia’s energy sector.

Over the years, dozens of young engineers have participated in AGL’s internship programme. They include current employees who began their careers during the construction of Shuakhevi HPP. The company will continue to provide practical training for students and support the development of young professionals.
